About Pax Gate

Short description (80 characters)

A reflective pause before you open the apps that pull you out of your day.

Long description

Pax Gate intercepts the moment you open one of your gated apps and asks for a brief gratitude reflection, breath, or mood check-in before letting you through. Each unlock starts with intention instead of impulse.

The app is led by Pax, a panda mascot who runs the gratitude prompt, keeps every reflection in his private journal, and tends a sanctuary room the user builds out over time. Customization runs from light "just pause me" friction up to a Sanctuary Lock that seals every gated app for a set focus block.

All reflections are stored locally and encrypted on-device. Pax Gate is independent and unaffiliated with any external platform.

Meet the founder

Jonah Jamesen, founder of Pax Gate

I'm Jonah Jamesen, and I built Pax Gate after noticing a pattern in my own life that I didn't like: staying up too late, opening my phone almost without thinking, and getting pulled into short-form video feeds for way longer than I meant to. I still enjoy those apps, but I didn't like how automatic it had become, especially when it started affecting my sleep and my presence with my family.

I had always wanted to journal more and bring more gratitude into my everyday life, but I never found a habit that stuck. Pax Gate started as a way to add just enough friction between the impulse and the app: a small pause to breathe, reflect, or notice something worth being grateful for.

The moment I knew it was working was when I reflexively opened reels while my son, Kai, was nearby, and the prompt asked me about my family. I put the phone down.

That is the heart of Pax Gate: people don't need more shame around screen time; they need a small pause that helps them return to what matters. I work full time in data analysis and statistics, built the app in my spare time, and brought into it a lot of what grounds me personally: yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, gratitude, creativity, and the desire to be more present as a dad, husband, son, and human being.

Typography

Fraunces
Display · Headings · Pax's voice

Warm contemporary serif. Used for hero headlines, section headers, the Meet Pax title, and Pax's speech bubble copy. Variable-weight; we typically use the 500 and 600 weights.

Inter
Body · UI · Captions

Highly legible humanist sans-serif. The same face the Pax Gate app uses for in-app UI, so the website and app feel typographically continuous. Used for body copy, button labels, fine print, and section labels. We typically use the 400, 500, 600, and 700 weights.

Both faces are open-source via Google Fonts and ship with the app's binary so no network call is required at render time.

Voice

Quiet, deliberate, warm. We do not lecture, scold, or use scarcity language. Numbers describe progress; they never shame the user. Pax speaks in short sentences and never moralizes.
